National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval attended the BRICS National Security Advisers meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, from September 10-12. The meeting included high-level security officials from BRICS and BRICS Plus countries.

Key Discussions

During the sessions, Doval spoke about modern security challenges, including information and communication technology (ICT) issues and terrorism. He emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges through joint efforts within the BRICS framework.

BRICS Chairmanship

Russia is holding the BRICS chairmanship for the year 2024. BRICS is an informal group of states comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In 2023, new members Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joined the group.

Recent Visits

Doval’s visit to Moscow follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Russia and Ukraine in the past two months. During these visits, PM Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It was PM Modi’s first visit to these countries since the war between Moscow and Kyiv began in 2022. India has always advocated for peace and diplomacy to resolve the conflict.

In July, PM Modi met with President Putin at the Kremlin to discuss ways to diversify cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, including trade, commerce, security, agriculture, technology, and innovation.
