Court Denies Bail to Neelam Azad in Parliament Security Breach Case

The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has dismissed the bail plea of Neelam Azad, who is accused in the Parliament security breach case from last year. The decision was made by Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Hardeep Kaur, who stated that there are sufficient grounds to believe the allegations against Azad.

Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh argued that there is strong evidence against Azad, making her a flight risk and a threat to the investigation. He emphasized that the nature and severity of the offense, along with the substantial evidence, disqualify her from bail.

On the other hand, Azad’s lawyer, Balraj Malik, argued that she has been falsely implicated and has been in judicial custody since December 14, 2023. He pointed out that the investigation is complete, and the charge-sheet has been filed. Malik also criticized the use of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in this case.

The case involves six accused, including Azad, who allegedly attacked the Parliament on December 13, 2023, by throwing smoke canisters during a live session. All six are currently in judicial custody.
