Delhi Court Grants Bail to AAP Leader Durgesh Pathak in Excise Policy Case
New Delhi, India – The Rouse Avenue court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Durgesh Pathak and others in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case. The court session took place on Wednesday.
Key Details of the Court Session
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared via video conferencing from Tihar Jail, where his judicial custody was extended until September 25. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja granted bail to Durgesh Pathak upon furnishing a bail bond of Rs one lakh. Other accused individuals also furnished their bail bonds.
The court had summoned Durgesh Pathak and other accused, who were charge-sheeted without arrest. Vinod Chauhan, another accused, was produced physically in court and is also in custody for a money laundering case.
Supplementary Charge Sheet
The CBI had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Arvind Kejriwal, Durgesh Pathak, Amit Arora, Sharath Chandra Reddy, Ashish Mathur, and Vinod Chauhan. The court took cognizance of this charge sheet on September 3. The CBI supplied copies of the fourth supplementary charge sheet to the counsels of the accused persons and will provide a list of un-relied documents later.
Allegations and Statements
Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) D P Singh, along with Manu Mishra, represented the CBI. They alleged that money received from the South Group was used for AAP’s Goa election campaign. Kejriwal allegedly promised Rs 90 lakhs to each candidate in 40 constituencies of Goa. Durgesh Pathak was in charge of the Goa election, and all the money spent was on his instructions.
SPP D P Singh also mentioned that witnesses stated a businesswoman from Punjab was threatened, and Amit Arora threatened other witnesses. Sharath Chandra Reddy was alleged to have arranged Rs 14 crores and received five liquor vends in Delhi.
Additional Information
During the court session, CM Arvind Kejriwal was allowed to leave the video conference to have lunch due to low blood sugar. The CBI’s SPP further submitted that another accused, Vinod Chauhan, was dealing with the PA of K Kavitha.
