NHRC Investigates Pregnant Woman’s Tragic Experience at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of a media report about a pregnant woman in labor who was left unattended for 27 hours at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The woman was referred to the hospital for better medical care but had to lie on the floor due to a lack of available beds. Tragically, her child died in the womb the next day.

Another woman who had given birth was also reportedly being treated on the floor. The NHRC has stated that if the media report is accurate, it raises serious human rights concerns. The Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, requesting a detailed report on the incident within two weeks. The report should include the health status of the victim, the availability of beds and other facilities in government hospitals, and any compensation provided to the affected family.
