New Delhi, India – Randhir Singh, a former Indian shooter and veteran sports administrator, has been elected as the first Indian President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The election took place at the 44th OCA General Assembly at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Randhir Singh expressed his happiness and emphasized the unity among all National Olympic Committees (NOCs). He highlighted the significance of the meeting being held in India, where the Asian Games first started in 1951.

Randhir Singh’s Background

Born in Patiala, Punjab, Randhir comes from a family of sportspeople. His uncle, Yadavindra Singh, played Test cricket for India, and his father, Bhalindra Singh, was an IOC member. Randhir himself competed in four editions of the Asian Games, winning multiple medals in Trap Shooting. He also participated in the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.

Career in Sports Administration

Randhir’s journey in sports administration began in 1987 when he was appointed as the Honourary Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association. He has held various significant positions, including Secretary General of OCA, Vice-Chairman of the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games organizing committee, and member of the IOC.

Awards and Recognitions

Throughout his career, Randhir has received numerous accolades, including the Arjuna Award, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award, OCA Award of Merit, Merit Award from ANOC, and the Olympic Order Silver. He was also conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Literature in Sports Science from the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Government of India.
