Exciting Laddu Eating Contest in Jamnagar During Ganesh Chaturthi
In Jamnagar, Gujarat, a unique ‘laddu eating’ competition was held during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. This event, known as the Open Saurashtra Laddu Competition, has been a tradition for 16 years.
Organized by the Brahma Social Group, this year’s competition saw 49 contestants, including 33 men, 6 women, and 10 children. The laddus, each weighing 100 grams and made of pure ghee and milk, were the highlight of the event.
Participants from Jamkandorana, Jamjodhpur, and Jamnagar took part. Ravji Makwana won by eating 12 laddus, Ayush Thakar won the children’s category with 5 laddus, and Padmaniben Gajera won the women’s category with 9 laddus.
Ganesh Chaturthi, a ten-day festival, celebrates Lord Ganesha as the ‘God of New Beginnings’ and the ‘Remover of Obstacles.’ In Mumbai, the famous Lalbaugcha Raja idol is a major attraction, with the Kambli family overseeing its care for over eighty years. Across Maharashtra and beyond, the festival is marked by the installation of Ganesh idols, offerings, and visits to pandals.
