BJD MLAs Walk Out of Odisha Assembly Over Rising Crimes Against Women and Children
On September 5, BJD MLAs walked out of the Odisha Assembly, protesting against the increasing incidents of rapes and atrocities against minor children and women in the state. BJD MLA Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo expressed concern over the rise in such crimes since the new government took office 45 days ago. He criticized the government for not addressing these heinous crimes adequately and questioned the steps being taken to prevent future incidents.
BJP MP Tankadhar Tripathy responded by stating that under the current regime, the police have been given complete freedom to take strict action against the accused, unlike in the past when they were under pressure to protect them. He claimed that the main accused in recent cases were apprehended quickly and arrangements were made for their strong punishment.
Congress MLA C S Raazen Ekka also criticized the BJP government, highlighting the rise in rape and murder cases, including the recent incidents involving a 10-year-old tribal girl in Balasore, and other cases in Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar. He called for a CBI inquiry and fast-tracking of these cases to ensure justice for the victims.
