Pranjali Dhumal Wins Bronze at World Deaf Shooting Championship 2024 in Germany

New Delhi [India], September 5, 2024: Pranjali Dhumal clinched the bronze medal in the Women’s 25m Pistol event at the 2nd World Deaf Shooting Championship 2024, held in Hanover, Germany. This achievement brought India’s total medal count to 13, including three gold, six silver, and four bronze medals.

Pranjali qualified for the finals by setting a deaf world record and a deaf world championship record with a score of 571. In the finals, she secured the bronze by hitting three out of five shots in the eighth series, finishing with a score of 29, just one point ahead of Lana Skeledzija. The gold and silver medals were won by Sofiia Olenych and Halyna Mosina from Ukraine, respectively.

Another Indian shooter, Anuya Prasad, finished fifth in the finals with a score of 21, after qualifying with a score of 558. Vedika Sharma, the third Indian participant, ended the qualification round with a score of 473.

The 16-member Indian Deaf Shooting team has had a strong start to the championship. Anuya Prasad won gold in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event. In the Men’s 10m Air Pistol event, Abhinav Deshwal won silver and Shubham Vashist won bronze. The duo, along with Chetan Sakpal, also secured a team silver in the event.

The championship will continue until September 7, 2024, with Indian shooters competing in the Air Rifle and Air Pistol disciplines. The team includes top shooters like Dhanush Srikanth and is supported by an interpreter and coaches Preeti Sharma (Pistol) and Sanjeev Rajput (Rifle).

Earlier, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) and ITC Maurya in New Delhi hosted an event to honor the Indian Olympic shooting contingent. Olympic winners Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh, and Swapnil Kusale, along with other participants, were felicitated with rewards and mementoes. The evening concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony themed around the Olympics and shooting.
