On September 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong visited the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd in Singapore. They invited Singapore’s semiconductor companies to participate in the SEMICON INDIA exhibition in Greater Noida from September 11-13.

During the visit, they were briefed on AEM’s role in the global semiconductor value chain and its plans for India. The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association also discussed the development of Singapore’s semiconductor ecosystem and opportunities for collaboration with India.

PM Modi and Lawrence Wong interacted with Indian interns from Odisha’s World Skill Centre and Singaporean interns who had visited India under the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme. They also met Indian engineers working at AEM.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that both countries have decided to expand bilateral cooperation in semiconductor manufacturing. They agreed to add Advanced Manufacturing, focusing on semiconductors, as a pillar for enhancing cooperation. An MoU on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership was also concluded.

PM Modi expressed his appreciation to PM Wong for joining him on the visit. The visit underscored the commitment of both countries to develop cooperation in the semiconductor sector.

Earlier, PM Modi and PM Wong held talks to boost cooperation in various sectors, including skilling, healthcare, and artificial intelligence. They agreed on the need to enhance trade relations. Four significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged, covering digital technologies, the semiconductor sector, health and medicine, and education and skills development.

Before arriving in Singapore, PM Modi visited Brunei and held talks with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
