Manila, Philippines – Alice Guo, a former mayor from the Philippines, has been arrested in Indonesia after being on the run since July. She is accused of having relations with Chinese criminal syndicates and spying for the Chinese government.

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) stated that Alice, also known as Guo Hua Ping, is wanted by the Philippine Senate for refusing to attend a congressional investigation into her alleged criminal ties. The Justice Department confirmed that Alice is currently in the custody of the Indonesian Police.

Alice, who was the former mayor of Bamban town, was arrested in Tangerang City, Jakarta. Philippine law enforcement agencies, including the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), have filed multiple cases of money laundering against Alice and 35 others. They are accused of laundering more than 100 million pesos (USD 1.8 million) from criminal activities.

Justice Secretary Boying Remulla praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies and international cooperation in bringing Alice to justice. The Senate of the Philippines had initiated an investigation into her activities in May, following a casino raid in Bamban town that uncovered scams linked to her.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a ban on online gaming operators over their suspected links to organized crime and promised to pursue those who aided Alice’s flight. Alice had fled the Philippines in July, traveling through Malaysia and Singapore before reaching Indonesia.

The Presidential Communications Office released a statement from President Marcos, emphasizing that Alice’s arrest should serve as a warning to those attempting to evade justice. He congratulated law enforcement personnel and thanked the Indonesian government for their assistance.
