Nithya Sre Sivan Wins Bronze at Paris Paralympics 2024

New Delhi, India – Indian para-shuttler Nithya Sre Sivan has won a bronze medal in the women’s para badminton SH6 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on X, saying, “Congratulations to Nithya Sre Sivan on winning the Bronze medal in the Women’s Singles Para-Badminton SH6 event at the Paralympics 2024! Her feat has inspired countless people and highlights her passion as well as dedication to the game.”

Nithya Sre Sivan defeated Indonesia’s Rina Marlina 21-14 and 21-6 to secure her first-ever Paralympic medal. Earlier, she faced a tough challenge in the semifinals, losing to China’s Lin Shuangbao with scores of 13-21 and 19-21.

Other Indian Achievements at Paris Paralympics 2024

India has seen several successes at the ongoing Paralympics. Nitesh won a gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category by defeating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell with scores of 21-14, 18-21, and 23-21. Murugesan secured a silver medal after losing to China’s Yang Qiu Xia in the women’s singles SL4 category. Manisha won a bronze medal in the same category by defeating Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8.

In the men’s singles SL4 category, France’s Lucas Mazur defeated Indian player Suhas with scores of 9-21 and 13-21. At the end of Day 5, India stands at 15th position in the medal tally with three gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals.

Para-shooter Avani Lekhara won India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best of 249.7 points. Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 with 234.9 points, while Rubina Francis won bronze in the P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH-1 final.

Preeti Pal won bronze in the 100m T35 event and another bronze in the 200m T-35 race. Nishad Kumar secured a silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event with a leap of 2.04m. Yogesh Kathuniya won silver in the men’s Discus Throw F56 final. The Indian archery pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won bronze in the Mixed Team Compound event. Sumit Antil defended his gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 final with a record-breaking throw.
