Dubai Sends Urgent Aid to Help 70,000 Sudanese People in Chad

Dubai, UAE, September 2 – Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Humanitarian (DXB-H) has sent urgent relief supplies to Ndjamena, the capital of Chad. This aid is aimed at helping over 70,000 Sudanese people in need.

On August 31, a Boeing 747 cargo flight left Al Maktoum International Airport carrying 90 metric tonnes of essential supplies. These included medical supplies, shelter materials, and other relief items provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized the importance of quick response in saving lives. He highlighted the strong partnerships and support from Dubai’s leadership in making this mission possible.

Robert Blanchard, Emergency Operations Manager at WHO, mentioned that the flight carried 37 metric tonnes of life-saving medical supplies. These are crucial for treating thousands of people in need of immediate medical assistance.

Benjamin Safari, Head of Supply Management Service at UNHCR, stated that 53 metric tonnes of critical supplies were sent to help 68,000 people in the Darfur region affected by floods and famine.

The relief mission, costing AED1.48 million (USD405,000), was fully funded by Dubai Humanitarian’s Global Humanitarian Impact Fund, which supports critical missions worldwide.
