Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to Receive Report on Alleged COVID-19 Scam During BJP Rule

The Congress government in Karnataka, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is preparing to respond to allegations made by the BJP regarding the MUDA and Valmiki scams. A commission of inquiry, headed by retired High Court judge John Michael D’Cunha, has completed its investigation into alleged COVID-19 irregularities during the previous BJP government. The report will be submitted to CM Siddaramaiah on Sunday afternoon.

The commission investigated the procurement of medicines, medical equipment, oxygen management, and deaths due to lack of oxygen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Serious allegations of misappropriation were made by BJP’s own MLA and former Union Minister Basan Gowda Patil Yatnal, claiming thousands of crores were misused.

CM Siddaramaiah, who was the leader of the opposition during the BJP government, had demanded an inquiry into the alleged COVID-19 corruption, but the BJP government rejected this. After the Congress came to power, the inquiry commission was formed.

According to sources, the Congress government plans to use the report to take action against those involved, including BJP ministers and officials. Meanwhile, the state Congress unit participated in the ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ protest to condemn the Governor’s move to grant sanction of prosecution against CM Siddaramaiah.

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar stated at the protest, ‘The Governor’s office has been misused to destabilize the Congress government in the state. Doing this is wrong. A governor should not work against the law, he should work in favour of the law. Also, the constitution should be protected. The office of the Governor should be a name for equality. So, our struggle for the survival of democracy and constitution is continuous.’
