Jaishankar humorously noted that the 10-hour journey each way could have been more comfortable with a Vande Bharat train. He recalled PM Modi’s previous train ride on a Shinkansen bullet train in Japan, emphasizing the rarity of such journeys for Indian Prime Ministers.

Significant Visit

Upon arrival in Ukraine, PM Modi was welcomed at the station and proceeded to the Hyatt Hotel for initial engagements. The Indian diaspora greeted him warmly. A notable part of his visit was paying tribute at the multimedia Martyrologist at the Ukraine National Museum, honoring the memory of Ukrainian children lost to the Russian invasion.

Discussing the current global situation, Jaishankar highlighted the increasing risks in the international order, economy, and individual countries. He mentioned various conflicts and tensions worldwide, including in Europe, West Asia, and Asia, and the impact on supply chains, climate, pandemics, and technology.

Jaishankar emphasized that governments are now focused on de-risking and exploring opportunities. He praised India’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, attributing its success to following its own understanding and not external advice.
