Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Honors Olympic Athletes

On Thursday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored four athletes from the state who participated in the Paris Olympics. The athletes honored were Lakshya Sen, Suraj Panwar, Ankita Dhyani, and Paramjeet Singh Bisht.

During the event, CM Dhami also transferred money digitally to these athletes. He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving facilities for athletes, stating, “The announcements made today will encourage them to perform even better in every field. We are committed to increasing facilities for them. In this regard, we brought a new sports policy.”

India’s Performance at the Paris Olympics

India concluded its campaign at the Paris Olympics with six medals: five bronze and one silver. Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal, securing third place in the women’s individual 10m Air pistol event. She also won a bronze medal in the 10m air pistol (mixed team) event with Sarabjot Singh, marking India’s first-ever shooting team medal.

Bhaker narrowly missed a historic grand treble, finishing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol shooting event. She is the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympics since independence, joining the elite group of PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar.

Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw with a best throw of 89.45 meters. The Indian men’s hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, won back-to-back bronze medals for the first time in 52 years, defeating Spain 2-1. Aman Sehrawat also secured a bronze medal in wrestling, marking India’s first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Games.
