On August 29, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Hungarian MP Balazs Orban in New Delhi. Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for Orban’s interest in the historical connection between India and Hungary. Earlier this year, in March, a parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, RS Harivansh, visited Hungary. The delegation included Rajya Sabha members Ashok Bajpai and Lt Gen (Retd) DP Vats, along with Secretary-General PC Mody. They met with Istvan Jakab, Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, and interacted with the Hungarian-Indian Friendship Group chaired by Peter Cseresnyes. Harivansh emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations between India and Hungary.

Diplomatic relations between India and Hungary are warm and multi-faceted, celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2023. Regular parliamentary exchanges have taken place, including a visit by Zsolt Nemeth, President of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Hungarian Parliament, to India in January 2024.
