Indian Army Rescues People in Flood-Hit Jamnagar, Gujarat
Heavy rains in Gujarat have caused severe flooding, leading to road closures and damage to bridges in Jamnagar. The road connecting Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya has been closed, and a portion of a small bridge over Sir PN Road has been washed away.
Following a request from the Gujarat government, six columns of the Indian Army are conducting rescue operations in the worst-affected areas. The Army is providing immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel reported that more than 5,000 people have been rehabilitated and over 12,000 people rescued as of Wednesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, offering guidance and support for relief measures.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the state, with extremely heavy rainfall expected over Saurashtra and Kutch, and very heavy rainfall over Gujarat.
