Sukanta Majumdar Leads Protests in Kolkata Against Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar reached Dorina Crossing in Kolkata late at night, where police tried to stop BJP workers from setting up a protest stage. According to Majumdar’s office, the stage setup has now resumed.

Earlier, despite a Calcutta High Court order, Kolkata Police stopped BJP cadres from making a protest platform at Dorina Crossing. On Wednesday, Majumdar staged a sit-in protest at Baguiati in Kolkata during the 12-hour ‘Bengal Bandh’ called by BJP in Bengal.

Majumdar also wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of advocating violence and inciting gatherings. He called for immediate attention to her statements made during an address to the Student Wing of TMC in Kolkata.

The BJP called for a ’12 hour Bengal Bandh’ after police used lathi charges, water cannons, and tear gas against protestors in the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ Rally. The rally started from College Square in Kolkata, with heightened security around the West Bengal state secretariat and protestors gathering at Santragachi in Howrah.

On August 27, chaos erupted in Kolkata streets as security personnel used tear gas, water cannons, and lathi charges to disperse protestors on Howrah Bridge. The protests were in response to the murder and alleged sexual assault of a female trainee doctor on August 9 at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which caused national outrage.
