Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Aadhaar Cards for 935,682 People and Champai Soren’s Move to BJP

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the central government has directed UIDAI to issue Aadhaar cards to 935,682 people who submitted their biometrics between February 2019 and August 2024. This decision follows two years of state government efforts.

CM Sarma explained that the state government formed a cabinet sub-committee to address the issue and held discussions with various organizations and the Government of India. On July 29, 2024, the state government requested the center to release Aadhaar cards to these individuals, and on August 27, 2024, the center directed UIDAI to proceed.

Additionally, Sarma revealed that former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Champai Soren, will join the BJP on August 30, 2024. Soren’s movements were reportedly tracked by Jharkhand’s Special Branch Police during his visits to Delhi.

Earlier, Sarma took to social media to announce Soren’s decision to join the BJP, mentioning that Soren had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
