Sanjay Raut Accuses Centre of Double Standards Over Bengal Bandh
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has accused the central government of double standards. He stated that while a bandh in BJP-led Maharashtra was stopped, a similar bandh in anti-BJP West Bengal was not. The Bengal Bandh was called by BJP after the alleged sexual assault and murder of a woman doctor on August 28 in Kolkata.
Raut mentioned that the accused in the West Bengal case was arrested and criticized BJP for attacking the police there. He also highlighted that the Mamata Banerjee government took police action in the incident.
Earlier, Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers protested against BJP’s 12-hour Bengal Bandh, accusing BJP of trying to create anarchy. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that the people of West Bengal have rejected BJP’s bandh and that the case is now in the hands of the CBI.
On Tuesday, a rally called ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ started from College Square in West Bengal’s capital, with heightened security around the state secretariat. Protestors clashed with police, leading to the use of water cannons, lathi-charge, and tear gas to disperse them.
