Iraqi PM Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani Meets Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo
Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, who arrived with a high-level Iraqi delegation. They discussed ways to help the region overcome serious crises threatening its stability.
The leaders emphasized the need for international pressure to complete the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and end the humanitarian crisis in the Strip. They also stressed the importance of stopping the ongoing Israeli escalation in the West Bank and launching a political track for Palestinian independence along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Both leaders agreed on the necessity of intensified joint Arab action, highlighting the tripartite cooperation among Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan. They affirmed their commitment to making their projects successful to serve as a model for Arab cooperation and regional integration.
At least 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 105 remaining hostages, more than 30 have been declared dead. Hamas has also been holding captive two Israeli civilians since 2014 and 2015, and the bodies of two soldiers killed in 2014.
