Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Saleem Bhat File Nominations for Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Polls

On Tuesday, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the Congress candidate from Dooru Assembly constituency, filed his nomination for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls. Mir expressed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been suffering under BJP’s rule and emphasized the need for democracy in the region.

Mir stated, “The people of J&K did not have any representation for the last 11 years. The people are suffocated by the torture of the BJP and the central government. That’s why the INDIA alliance always demanded democracy in J&K. The public should get the opportunity to choose their representative. The people here will participate and form the government. BJP is frustrated by the unity of the INDIA alliance here.”

Saleem Bhat, the BJP candidate from Banihal Assembly, also filed his nomination and called for support from the people for peace and prosperity. Bhat said, “I have been part of the BJP since 2008 and I am proud of the fact that I am a soldier of the party. The high command has given me this opportunity, and I have full faith that the people will bless us and give this seat to PM Modi. I appeal to the people that if they want peace and prosperity then the people of the constituency should make BJP win.”

He added, “I don’t have a contest with any other party, I think PM Modi has already won 70% of the contest for me. All this Congress and NC should have come together for the poor, but they are together for the chair. Stone pelting has been ended and there is now politics of development here.”

Earlier, Sajjad Shaheen, a National Conference (NC) candidate from Banihal, mentioned that their party’s alliance with Congress aims to defeat communal forces in the valley. The NC will contest 51 of 90 seats and Congress 32, with a “friendly contest” on five seats. One seat each has been left for CPI(M) and Panthers Party.

The National Conference announced its list of 18 candidates, while Congress announced its first list of nine candidates. BJP released its first list of 16 candidates for the elections. Polling will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 4. Voting will be held for 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, which has 88.06 lakh electors.
