Serbian tennis star and defending champion Novak Djokovic started his US Open campaign with a win over Radu Albot on Monday. This was Djokovic’s first match on hard court since March and his first tournament after winning a historic gold at the Paris Olympics.

Djokovic won the match 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 in two hours and seven minutes. Despite the victory, he showed some inconsistency with 10 double faults, 47% of first serves in play, and 40 unforced errors.

With this win, Djokovic tied with Roger Federer for the most wins at the US Open, now second only to Jimmy Connors. He is chasing his 25th major title to break his tie with Australian legend Margaret Court. In the second round, Djokovic will face compatriot Laslo Djere, who defeated German Jan-Lennard Struff in five sets.

Djokovic, currently ranked number two in ATP Rankings, is also aiming for his 100th career title. He first won the US Open in 2011 and has a record of 30 wins and seven losses this season. Throughout his Grand Slam career, Djokovic has an impressive record of 62-1 against players outside the Top 100 and 41-0 against players outside the top 50 at the US Open.

On the other hand, Radu Albot’s career record worsened to 107 wins and 147 losses. This was his 10th US Open main-draw appearance after earning a qualification for the third time.
