Omar Abdullah and Congress Announce Seat-Sharing for Jammu and Kashmir Elections
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress and National Conference (NC) have announced their seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming assembly elections. NC Vice President Omar Abdullah stated that the Congress did not object to their manifesto and that a common minimum program would be formed after winning the election.
Abdullah explained that both parties found it difficult to leave five friendly seats, so they decided to field their candidates on these seats. He also commented on the BJP’s second list of candidates, noting that the BJP retracted its list shortly after releasing it.
According to the seat-sharing pact, the National Conference will contest 51 of 90 seats, and Congress will contest 32. The two parties will have a friendly contest on five seats and have left one seat each for CPI(M) and Panthers Party. Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra emphasized the understanding between the two parties and their disciplined approach to the friendly contest.
Congress leader KC Venugopal stated that their alliance aims to save the soul of Jammu and Kashmir and form a government that is friendly to the people. Meanwhile, the BJP released its first list of candidates, aiming to represent various communities and castes. The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 4.
