Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker has urged for improved sports facilities in her village, Goria, to help future athletes. She said, “If we get better facilities in our village, then the children will go a long way. If we get stadiums and ranges, then the children can achieve success.”

In response, Lok Sabha member Deepender Hooda promised to build stadiums and an international-level shooting range. He announced a contribution of Rs 25 lakhs from his ‘Saansad quota’ and an additional Rs 1 lakh from his personal funds for the village’s development.

Bhaker, who recently won two medals at the Paris Olympics, expressed her happiness upon returning home. She said, “It is a good feeling and I am very happy. I have come back after a long time. I am very happy to be here…”

At the Paris Olympics, Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian to win two medals at the same Olympics. She and her partner Sarabjot Singh secured bronze in the 10 M Air Pistol Mixed team event. Bhaker also won a bronze medal in the women’s individual 10 M Air pistol event, becoming the first-ever woman shooter to win an Olympic medal for India. She narrowly missed out on a third medal, finishing fourth in the women’s 25 M pistol shooting event.

Bhaker is the first athlete from the Indian contingent after independence to get two medals in a single edition of the Paris Olympics. She joins an elite group of Indian athletes with multiple individual Olympic medals, including PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar.
