Heavy Rainfall in Gujarat: CM Bhupendra Patel Orders Evacuations in Valsad and Other Districts

As heavy rain continues to pour in Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to evacuate people from low-lying areas to safer places. The districts most affected by the rainfall include Valsad, Tapi, Navsari, Surat, Narmada, and Panchmahal.

The Chief Minister spoke with the collectors of these districts to understand the situation better and assured the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) of full support from the state.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, the highest rainfall recorded was 64 mm in Sagabara taluk of Narmada district from 6 am to 8 am on Sunday. Vapi in Valsad recorded the maximum rainfall of 326 mm in the last 24 hours.

Valsad SDM Astha Solanki mentioned, “There has been around 120 mm of rainfall in the city of Valsad since last night. The water level in Kashmir Nagar of Valsad has started rising, and about a hundred families have been shifted so far.”

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in Gujarat. Similar alerts have been issued for East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, and the North-Eastern states of Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura. An orange alert has been issued for West Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Karnataka, and the North-Eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya.

SDM Astha Solanki -: SDM stands for Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Astha Solanki is the person in charge of a part of the district, making sure everything runs smoothly.

Indian Meteorological Department -: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is a government agency that studies the weather and gives warnings about things like heavy rain or storms.

Red alert -: A red alert is a warning given by the government or weather department to tell people that very bad weather is coming and they need to be very careful.
