Ajit Pawar Calls for Strict Punishment in Badlapur Case
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar has called for severe punishment for those guilty of offences against women, suggesting castration for repeat offenders. He made this statement during a program about the Mahayuti government’s ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme for women in Yavatmal, eastern Maharashtra.
Pawar emphasized that the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government would not spare anyone accused of such crimes. He said, “Those who put hands on our girls, they should be shown the wrath of the law in such a way that they don’t even think about that for a second time. In my language, I would say that they should be castrated, so that there will be no repeat of the offence. This must be done to these people who are so useless.”
Meanwhile, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, along with Maha Vikas Aghadi party leaders and workers, staged a protest in Pune against the Badlapur incident. Sharad Pawar criticized the government’s response, stating, “There is not a day in Maharashtra when there is no news of atrocities against women … The government should take this incident seriously. The government is saying that the opposition is doing politics, calling it politics shows how insensitive the government is.”
The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls at a school in Badlapur has sparked outrage. On August 17, police arrested a school attendant for allegedly abusing the girls. An FIR has been registered against the school authorities for not complying with the provisions of section 19 of the POCSO Act, which mandates reporting such incidents to the police.
