New Railway Line Between Bhairabi and Hortoki Approved by Commissioner Sumeet Singhal

The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Sumeet Singhal, has given the green light for the operation of freight and passenger trains on the newly constructed 16.725-kilometre broad-gauge line between Bhairabi and Hortoki as of August 22. This approval follows a thorough inspection completed at the end of last month.

Project Details

Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, explained that this section is part of the ongoing 51.38 Km Bhairabi-Sairang rail project. The new line includes 20 major bridges, 27 minor bridges, 13 tunnels, and advanced safety features like electronic interlocking and MACL signal systems.

Benefits

The new railway line will facilitate the transportation of more freight and passengers, enhance connectivity, and reduce travel time between Mizoram and Assam. It will also support local industries and boost tourism in the region.

Advanced Features

The section is designed for a maximum speed of 100 KMPH on the main line and 30 KMPH on loop lines. It includes modern amenities at Hortoki Railway Station, such as a new foot overbridge, waiting halls, and separate toilets for men and women.

Upon completion, the Bhairabi-Sairang rail project will significantly improve connectivity for the people of Mizoram, reduce transportation costs, and ensure a steady supply of essential goods.
