Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 22: Sharad Pawar, leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SCP), spoke about the public’s reaction to the Badlapur incident and the desire for political change in Maharashtra. He mentioned that people are uneasy and want a change in the state’s leadership.

During a press conference at the party’s regional office in Mumbai, Pawar said, “Assembly elections are ahead. Meetings are being held. People of Maharashtra want change.”

The comments came after a protest in Badlapur, Thane district, following an alleged sexual assault on two minor girls. Pawar cited this as an indicator of the current political situation, saying, “How strong is the reaction of the people when a serious incident happens? An example of this was seen yesterday in Badlapur. This means that there is a lot of uneasiness among the people.”

On August 17, police arrested a school attendant for the alleged assault. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election schedule for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, but the schedule for Maharashtra is yet to be announced. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the high demand for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir is the reason for the delay.

Additionally, the Central government has provided ‘Z+’ security to Sharad Pawar due to recent threats. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the order, and CRPF personnel will provide round-the-clock security to the 83-year-old politician.
