Brazilian Navy Commander Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen Visits India
New Delhi [India], August 21: Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen, Commander of the Brazilian Navy, is on an official visit to India from August 19 to 24. On August 21, he met with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval Staff, in New Delhi. They discussed various aspects including operational engagements, technical cooperation, and training. Admiral Olsen was received with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns.
Admiral Olsen joined the Navy in 1979 and was declared Guard of the Navy in 1982. He has commanded minesweeper NV Atalaia (M-17) and submarine S Tapajo, and served as chief mate of submarine S Tamoio and aircraft carrier NAe Sao Paulo.
The visit aims to enhance maritime cooperation between India and Brazil. The Indian Navy and Brazilian Navy cooperate through various initiatives, including operational interactions, training cooperation, and other maritime avenues. They also interact in multilateral forums like MILAN and IBSAMAR. Bilateral Defence Cooperation is conducted through the Joint Defence Committee, steered by the respective Ministries of Defence.
During his visit, Admiral Olsen will meet the Defence Secretary, the National Maritime Security Coordinator, and the Vice Chief of Army Staff in Delhi. He will also visit the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram and interact with various Defence Industry representatives.
In addition to New Delhi, Admiral Olsen will visit Mumbai, where he will interact with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. He will also visit Indigenous warships and submarines, the Naval Dockyard, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
