Mallikarjun Kharge Reaffirms Commitment to Constitution on Rajiv Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary

Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the party’s dedication to protecting the Constitution during a speech in Mumbai on ‘Sadhbhavana Diwas,’ marking former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Kharge said, “Saving the Constitution is still our top priority.” He highlighted the importance of having elected representatives in state governments and the Rajya Sabha to prevent changes to the Constitution.

Kharge also criticized the Modi government’s controversial advertisement for lateral entry into government posts, which was withdrawn after public and political pressure. He stated, “The Modi government withdrew this decision because you are strong. If the Modi government had been in majority, it would have placed RSS people on those posts without giving reservation to anyone.”

The UPSC recently released a notification for recruiting Joint Secretaries, Directors, and Deputy Secretaries through lateral entry. Following criticism, the Department of Personnel and Training wrote to UPSC asking to cancel the advertisement.
