Heavy Rains Cause Flooding and Traffic Disruptions in Ooty, Tamil Nadu

On August 19, heavy rains in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, led to flooding in the Kodappam Kalvai canal. This caused water to accumulate on a nearby railway bridge and disrupted traffic to 10 villages. A 15-foot circular wall collapsed in the Kunthu Soppai area, further affecting traffic, which was also diverted near Kanthal.

Two people were rescued by the fire department after being stranded on top of their car due to the flooding. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Buses and other vehicles stuck in the rain were also cleared after water seeped into the central Government bus station.

The Nilgiris region experienced heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning on Monday evening, causing significant water accumulation and damage. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm.
