Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Sonapur Old Age Home

On August 19, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Sonapur Government Old Age Home. During his visit, he distributed Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to the residents.

Key Announcements

Dr Sarma announced that the state government would issue these essential cards to all old age home residents in Assam who lacked them. The Aadhaar cards will allow residents to receive 5 kg of free rice each month. The Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Assam CM Jan Arogya Yojana cards will cover up to Rs 5 lakh in annual medical expenses at government hospitals. The Orunodoi scheme will facilitate a monthly deposit of Rs 1,250 into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Additionally, the state government will ensure that these residents can access health check-ups at Sonapur Civil Hospital.

Raksha Bandhan Celebrations

During the visit, the residents tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister to mark the Raksha Bandhan celebration. Other dignitaries, including Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Atul Bora, and Commissioner & Secretary of Social Justice & Empowerment Department Virendra Mittal, were also present.

Additional Celebrations

Earlier in the day, members of various social organizations and community members tied Rakhi to Chief Minister Dr Sarma at a ceremony held at his official residence. Housing & Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal and Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika were present at the event.
