Jharkhand Congress Chief Keshav Mahto Kamlesh Responds to Rumors About Champai Soren Joining BJP
New Delhi, India – Amid rumors that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jharkhand Congress Chief Keshav Mahto Kamlesh assured that Soren has always been respected by the alliance government.
Respect for Champai Soren
Keshav Mahto Kamlesh stated, “Alliance government has always given him respect. JMM made him an MLA, a minister. He was also made the CM. So, he was always given respect, there is nothing to be upset about.”
Upcoming Jharkhand Assembly Polls
After attending a Congress Screening Committee meeting in Delhi, Kamlesh mentioned that no discussions have been held regarding seat distribution for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly polls. He said, “No discussion has been held with us so far regarding that (distribution of seats for state elections). We are going to have a meeting with the Screening Committee chief and members again.”
Champai Soren’s Statement
Champai Soren expressed his dissatisfaction, stating he was “insulted” during his tenure. He mentioned that all options are open for him until the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly polls. Soren listed instances where he was not allowed to call a meeting of the legislative party and was asked to resign suddenly, prompting him to consider alternative paths.
In a post on X, Soren said he has always done politics for public concern, from raising workers’ voices against industrial houses to the Jharkhand movement. He mentioned three options: retiring from politics, forming his own organization, or finding a companion to continue his journey.
BJP’s Response
Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi acknowledged Soren’s pain, saying, “The way he wrote the post, his pain is visible. He’s deeply hurt because of the way he was removed from the CM post and now that pain has come out.” Marandi refrained from commenting on the possibility of Soren joining the BJP.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Remarks
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren indirectly targeted the BJP over the rumors, accusing them of poaching MLAs and spreading division among communities. He said, “These people (BJP) bring people from Gujarat, Assam, Maharashtra and spread poison among the tribals, Dalits, and backward people here. They work to break families and parties. They are continuously poaching MLAs.”
Minister Banna Gupta’s Statement
Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta accused the BJP of trying to loot Jharkhand’s democracy. He said, “We the people in the INDIA alliance are standing firm under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge against this loot. Our CM Hemant Soren was imprisoned without reason, just to capture the power in the state but we vigilantly failed them and saved democracy.”
Gupta added, “Champai Soren is a simple person, the way they (BJP) are trying to trap him and conspire by bringing him to their side, this conspiracy will not succeed.”
