Mumbai Doctors Protest at Azad Maidan Over Kolkata Trainee Doctor’s Tragic Case
Doctors and locals from Mumbai gathered at Azad Maidan to protest the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. Dr. Prerna Gomes from Jaslok Hospital emphasized the need for safety audits in all organizations, stating, “The workplace has to be safe for us.”
Earlier, on August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. This incident has led to nationwide strikes and protests by the medical community.
The West Bengal Governor’s office has alerted medical colleges to increase security and ensure adequate protection for women doctors and paramedics. The CBI team investigating the case has conducted 3D laser mapping of the emergency ward at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will hear the case on August 20.
