Shaukat Nawaz Mir Criticizes Confusing Curriculum in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu Kashmir

Muzaffarabad [PoJK], August 18: Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a local leader from Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK), has expressed his concerns over the unclear curriculum in the region. He blamed the education department for the confusion, which has been affecting students and worrying parents.

Mir explained that the issue has been ongoing for at least three years. Previously, PoJK’s education system included several boards like the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, the Punjab Province education board, the Elementary & Secondary Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP E&SE), and the PoJK board. However, there was no standardized system, and schools used books based on their convenience. The Mirpur board even complained about the quality of the books.

After a court order, it was decided that only books with a No Objection Certification (NOC) from the PoJK board would be allowed in schools. However, the court did not specify what should be taught, leading to further confusion. Mir criticized the education department for not addressing the issue, which he believes is wasting students’ time and jeopardizing their future.

Parents are confused about what their children should study, and students preparing for higher studies are unsure about their study materials. Mir also blamed the court for its vague decision, which has caused chaos as the proper production and supply of books have not reached the market, even though the session is about to end.

A businessman from PoJK also highlighted the problem, stating that the confusion among education boards is affecting the business community. Many businessmen have large stocks of books from different boards and are unsure if their stocks will be sold. This situation is problematic for both students and businessmen.
