Kavinder Gupta Criticizes Regional Parties Over Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir
Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta criticized regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir for misleading people about Article 370. He responded to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks about passing a resolution against the center’s decision to revoke the region’s special status.
Gupta said, “Day-dreaming is not a bad thing… They have been straying people since the abrogation of the Article 370. But nothing happened. People have rejected their kind of shopkeeping regarding Article 370 in Kashmir. That is why both the former Chief Ministers were defeated (in the recent Lok Sabha elections).”
Gupta expressed confidence that BJP will emerge as the largest party in the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled for September and October. He mentioned that the election process has started, and candidate selection will take place soon. The central leadership will discuss various topics in the election committee meeting.
The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results announced on October 4. The Election Commission of India has directed agencies to ensure impartial and transparent polling. There are a total of 90 assembly constituencies, with 87.09 lakh total electors, including 44.46 lakh males, 42.62 lakh females, and 169 transgender individuals.
Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of 10 years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when BJP withdrew support to then-Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. In December of last year, the Supreme Court directed the Centre to conclude the election process by September 30, 2024.
