India Sends 1400 Kgs of Anti-Cancer Drugs to Help Syria

India has dispatched a consignment of approximately 1400 kgs of anti-cancer drugs to Syria as part of its humanitarian assistance, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. This effort is in line with India’s commitment to supporting Syria.

Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, shared on X that the consignment will help the Syrian government and its people combat cancer.

India and Syria have historically shared cordial relations, with strong people-to-people ties. The Indian Embassy in Syria has remained open throughout the Syrian conflict, and many Syrians visit India for tourism, business, and medical treatment.

India has also contributed to the capacity building of Syrian youth through scholarship schemes and training courses under the ITEC programme.

In May this year, Syria’s First Lady, Asma Assad, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was born and raised in London to Syrian parents and had previously recovered from breast cancer in 2019.
