India and Japan to Hold Important 2+2 Meeting in New Delhi on August 20

The third round of the India-Japan 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting will be held on August 20, the Ministry of External Affairs announced. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India, while Japanese Defence Minister Minorou Kihara and Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa will represent Japan.

Jaiswal emphasized the significance of the meeting, noting that it will boost the already high-level relationship between the two countries. The first and second rounds of the 2+2 meetings were held in 2019 in New Delhi and in 2022 in Tokyo.

Earlier this month, EAM Jaishankar highlighted the strategic convergence of interests between India and Japan, mentioning the potential for increased business cooperation. He also noted that Japan recognizes the importance of working with India, especially in light of growing trade ties.

Additionally, India will host the 3rd edition of the Voice of Global South Summit on August 17. This event, held in a virtual format, aims to bring together countries from the Global South to discuss shared perspectives and priorities. The summit aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’ and is based on the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

Voice of Global South Summit -: The Voice of Global South Summit is a meeting where countries from the Global South (developing countries) come together to discuss their shared perspectives and priorities.
