Delhi Prisons Chief Satish Golcha Announces Special Remission for 1,160 Convicts on Independence Day

On the 78th Independence Day, the Director General of Delhi Prisons, Satish Golcha, announced a special remission for 1,160 convicts. The announcement was made after he hoisted the tricolour at the Prison Headquarters.

Golcha stated, “The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and valour within the Prison Department.” He added that the remission, ranging from 15 to 25 days, was based on the convicts’ conduct during their time in prison.

New laws have been implemented in all Delhi prisons, and work is progressing on the Online Court Production of Inmates. Officers and staff have been trained in various aspects of release and bail procedures.

The Prison Department is also focusing on Correctional Philosophy by emphasizing education and skill development programs. Collaborations with Max Healthcare Facilities, Primero, Ministry of Tourism, IOCL, FICCI YFLO, and Art of Living are enhancing vocational training and rehabilitation programs.

Recent advancements in prison security include the installation of 1,248 additional CCTV cameras with facial recognition technology and mobile jammers in six high-security wards of the Tihar prison complex.

Health screenings for HIV, Hepatitis B, and Syphilis were conducted for 10,573 prisoners, and a special cervical cancer screening camp was organized in collaboration with AIIMS. The number of ambulances and recruitment of doctors for Delhi prisons have been prioritized.

Efforts are also being made to enhance the welfare of prison staff through a Pension Grievance Cell and timely grant of promotions. A proposal for creating 3,200 new posts in Delhi Prisons is under consideration.

To acknowledge the efforts of the prison staff, commendable Jail Officers and Jail Staff members were awarded the D.G. Disc, and various officials received Appreciation Letters for their distinguished service.

The event concluded with a combined parade by personnel from the CRPF, ITBP, and TSP, adding to the grandeur of the celebrations.
