TMC Leader Shatrughan Sinha Praises Mamata Banerjee Amid Controversy in West Bengal

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shatrughan Sinha praised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her a woman of substance and a symbol of women empowerment. He criticized the BJP for its continuous attacks on Banerjee, describing the party as ‘desperate and frustrated.’

Sinha highlighted Banerjee’s struggles and achievements, stating, ‘There is only one woman CM in the entire country and we talk about women empowerment. Mamata Banerjee is a woman of substance and she has struggled a lot to reach this position. She proved herself as a successful leader. The entire country is proud of her.’

This statement comes amid public outrage over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemned the violence, calling it a sign of anarchy, and criticized the state government for the collapse of public order.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia accused Banerjee of mishandling the situation by delaying the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He criticized Kolkata Police for their initial response, claiming they failed to register an FIR and categorized the case as an ‘unnatural death.’

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose also criticized the police, accusing some officers of being politicized and criminalized. He visited RG Kar Medical College and described the incident as ‘shocking, shattering, and deplorable,’ calling it a shame for Bengal, India, and humanity.

Kolkata Police clarified that the crime scene had not been disturbed during the mob vandalism that broke out on August 14. The incident has triggered nationwide protests by doctors and medical fraternities.
