Imran Khan Distances PTI from Arrested Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed

Former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed is facing a court-martial after being arrested by the Pakistan Army. On Tuesday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan distanced himself and his party from Hameed, stating that their relationship was purely professional.

Hameed, who served as ISI chief during Imran Khan’s tenure as Prime Minister, is accused of misusing his position to extort money from a private housing society. The Pakistan Army cited a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the basis for initiating action against Hameed.

PTI lawyer Intezar Panjutha, after meeting with Imran Khan in Adial jail, briefed the media on Hameed’s arrest. Panjutha quoted Khan saying, ‘It is the army’s internal matter’ and that the PTI had no political relationship with Hameed.

This marks the third instance of a general officer facing court-martial in Pakistan for misconduct, following previous convictions of a two-star and a three-star general for mutiny and espionage, respectively.
