New Delhi [India], August 12: Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai on his birth anniversary, celebrating the legacy of the ‘Father of India’s Space Program.’ Kharge emphasized Sarabhai’s pivotal role in the formation of the Indian National Committee for Space and Research (INCOSPAR), which later became the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Kharge stated, “We honor the exceptional legacy of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai on his birth anniversary.” He highlighted Sarabhai’s close association with Pandit Nehru, which led to the creation of INCOSPAR, and praised his contributions to founding numerous institutions and chairing the Atomic Energy Commission.

ISRO also paid tribute by sharing a video on its social media platform, celebrating Sarabhai’s birthday. Congress MP Manickam Tagore joined in, acknowledging Sarabhai’s visionary leadership and his role in inspiring scientific innovation in India.

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, born on August 12, 1919, in Ahmedabad, was a physicist and astronomer who initiated space research and helped develop nuclear power in India. He established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad and played a significant role in creating the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Sarabhai’s efforts led to the establishment of ISRO, and he was supported by Homi Jehangir Bhabha in setting up India’s first rocket launching station in Thumba.

Sarabhai’s legacy continues to inspire scientific progress in India. He passed away on December 30, 1971, in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
