Agartala (Tripura) [India], August 11: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha extended his congratulations to President Droupadi Murmu for receiving Timor-Leste’s highest civilian honor, the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste. Saha praised her dedication to public service, social welfare, and women’s empowerment.

On social media, Manik Saha wrote, “Warmest congratulations to Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on receiving Timor-Leste’s highest civilian honor, the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, from President Jose Ramos-Horta. This prestigious award acknowledges her remarkable dedication to public service, social welfare, and women’s empowerment, as well as the thriving friendship between India and Timor-Leste.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his pride, stating that the award reflects the strong ties and mutual respect between India and Timor-Leste. He emphasized that the honor recognizes President Murmu’s monumental contributions to public life over the years.

President Murmu, who arrived in Timor-Leste after visiting Fiji and New Zealand, was warmly received by President Jose Ramos-Horta and cheerful children at the airport. She held a bilateral meeting with her Timor-Leste counterpart in Dili, discussing opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two nations. This visit marks the first-ever Head of State level visit from India to Timor-Leste.

During her visit, President Murmu addressed the Indian Community Reception in Dili and was accorded a ceremonial reception and guard of honor at the Presidential Palace. The visit was made at the invitation of President Jose Ramos-Horta.
