Minister S Jaishankar Discusses Cyber Trafficking of Indians in Southeast Asia

New Delhi, August 9: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the issue of cyber crime trafficking of Indian nationals to Southeast Asian countries in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized that the government is taking this issue very seriously.

Repatriation Efforts

Jaishankar revealed that 650 Indian nationals have been repatriated from Cambodia, 415 from Myanmar, and 548 from Laos. He assured that the government has raised this issue with the concerned governments at a political level.

Government Actions

The minister highlighted that the government is vigilant and is cracking down hard on this issue. He mentioned that recruiting agents involved in such activities will not be allowed to continue their business and will face prosecution if found guilty of any criminality or law violations.

Specific Cases

Jaishankar also mentioned that cases related to Russia are being investigated by the CBI, with arrests and prosecutions underway. He added that state governments have been asked to initiate prosecutions against agents involved in cyber trafficking to Southeast Asia.

International Cooperation

In July, Jaishankar discussed the issue with the Prime Minister of Laos and the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand, appreciating their cooperation in the rescue and relief of Indian nationals.
