Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya Ensures Safety of Bangladeshi Students Amid Crisis
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], August 6: Amid the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya has assured that 20 Bangladeshi students studying at Gujarat University are safe. These students are sponsored by the Government of India.
Pansheriya stated that both the University and the Government of Gujarat have taken responsibility for the students’ security. He mentioned that Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel informed the Education Department about the students’ situation. Following the unrest in Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a rule, and the Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University held a meeting with the students to ensure their safety.
“The responsibility for the security of all students has been taken up by the University and the Government of Gujarat. All of them are safe and there is no problem. Out of these 20 students, 8 are girls and 12 are boys,” Pansheriya added.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reported that there are an estimated 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, including about 9,000 students. The government is in close contact with the Indian community in Dhaka, and most students returned to India in July.
Jaishankar also mentioned that Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested approval to come to India at short notice and arrived in Delhi on Monday evening. He noted that the government is monitoring the situation concerning minorities in Bangladesh and emphasized the close ties between India and Bangladesh.
