Rahul Gandhi and INDIA Alliance Leaders Protest Against GST on Insurance in Parliament
On August 6, leaders of the INDIA alliance, including Rahul Gandhi, protested outside the Makar Dwar in Parliament, demanding the rollback of GST on health and life insurance.
Congress MP Jebi Mather’s Statement
Congress MP Jebi Mather criticized the 18% GST, calling it disrespectful to human faith. She stated, “Now, the central government has imposed 18 percent GST on the insurance, which is taken by the poor as a solace. This decision by the government just reflects that there is no respect for human faith and the India bloc stands united in demanding a rollback of the GST on insurance.”
AITMC Leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay’s Criticism
AITMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay also condemned the GST as anti-people, urging Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to withdraw it. He said, “We raised the issue today that GST on life insurance premiums and medicine be withdrawn immediately. Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, raised her voice yesterday. We feel that this GST is anti-people. This GST is adversely affecting the people of the country.”
TMC MPs’ Protest
TMC MPs staged a similar protest on August 3, led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Bandyopadhyay emphasized that the government should take back the move and warned of a bigger movement if necessary.
