Protests Erupt in Chittagong After Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation

In Chittagong, Bangladesh, protests erupted following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. Miscreants attacked and set fire to six police stations, looting weapons and injuring officers. Attacks on Police Stations

Police stations in Chandgaon, Patenga, EPZ, Kotowali, Akbar Shah, and Pahartali were attacked, vandalized, and set on fire. Weapons, ammunition, and other equipment were looted, and several police personnel were injured.

Violence at Chittagong Metropolitan Police Lines

Around 5 pm, attackers tried to breach the main gate of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Lines in Dampara. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd, but hundreds gathered, pelting bricks at the police commissioner’s office.

Attacks on Residences and Offices

The residence of Chittagong City Corporation Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Jubo League leader Helal Akbar Babar’s house were attacked. CCC ward number 10 Councilor Nichar Uddin Manju’s house was ransacked after he apologized to the attackers. The office of city Awami League vice-president Altaf Hossain Bachchu and a party office at Darul Fazal Market were also vandalized and set on fire.

Celebrations Across Chittagong

People from all walks of life marched through Chittagong, distributing sweets in celebration. A joyous procession began at 3 pm, spreading through various parts of the city.

Sheikh Hasina’s Departure

Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening after resigning. It is unclear if she will stay in Delhi or move to another location, with reports suggesting she may proceed to London.
