Rahmanullah Gurbaz Joins Pretoria Capitals for SA 20 Season
New Delhi [India], August 5: The Pretoria Capitals have signed Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the upcoming SA 20 season. This will be Gurbaz’s first stint in SA 20, where he will reunite with Jonathan Trott, the coach who led Afghanistan to the T20 World Cup semi-finals earlier this year.
Trott was recently appointed as the head coach of the Pretoria Capitals, following Graham Ford’s departure last month. Gurbaz expressed his excitement in a video posted by the franchise, saying, “I am really excited to be a part of the Pretoria Capitals. Can’t wait to see you all there. Looking forward to doing something better for my team in the upcoming season.”
Currently, Gurbaz is playing for Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada. He has been in top form, ending Afghanistan’s historic T20 World Cup run as the leading run-getter with 281 runs at an average of 35.21. He also hit three half-centuries, 16 sixes, and 18 boundaries during the tournament.
Gurbaz has also played in the ILT20 for Dubai Capitals, scoring 146 runs in eight innings with an average of 18.25 and a strike rate of 155.31. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he won the title with Kolkata Knight Riders. Overall, in T20Is, Gurbaz has scored 1,657 runs in 63 matches at an average of 26.30 and a strike rate of 135.48.
The 22-year-old will join other notable players in the Pretoria Capitals squad, including Wayne Parnell, Will Jacks, Rilee Rossouw, Jimmy Neesham, and Anrich Nortje. The Capitals have also signed England batter Ollie Pope to strengthen their batting lineup.
