Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla Talks About Bangladesh’s Unrest and Its Impact on India
New Delhi, India – As the situation in Bangladesh becomes more unstable, former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has expressed concerns about the potential impact on India. He emphasized that an unstable Bangladesh could lead to instability in parts of India. Shringla, who also served as a High Commissioner to Bangladesh, stressed the need to work with all concerned parties to ensure the interests of both India and Bangladesh are protected.
This statement comes after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country. Indian security agencies monitored a C-130 Aircraft with call sign AJAX1431, believed to be carrying Sheikh Hasina and her entourage, as it flew near the Indian border.
“An unstable Bangladesh can add to instability in parts of our country, which we do not want to see. So, a peaceful, prosperous, stable Bangladesh is in India’s best interest,” Shringla said. He further added, “It’s in our interest to ensure that there is peace and stability in our neighboring countries.”
Highlighting the strong relationship between India and Bangladesh, Shringla noted the significant development and positive changes under Sheikh Hasina’s government. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties and engaging with any political or other organizations necessary to further the interests of both countries.
When asked about the possibility of PM Hasina seeking shelter in India, Shringla mentioned that India has never denied safe haven or asylum to those in its neighborhood. However, he suggested that there might be other places where the prime minister could seek refuge.
